Austin deaths are not the Travis County Clerk

The Travis County Clerk keeps 1903 to 1956. A death inside Austin city limits goes to the City of Austin. Outside Austin, it may be a Justice of the Peace.

The Travis County Clerk says it is not the local registrar for all birth and death certificates. The records it will copy are births and deaths in Travis County from 1903 to 1956. A death in Austin last month is not that pile.

County and JP

County Clerk, Recording Division, P.O. Box 149325, Austin, TX 78714, for the 1903-1956 copies it actually holds ($20 per death copy on the county page this check). Deaths outside Austin city limits but still in Travis County: the Justice of the Peace precinct where the death occurred. Texas DSHS is the statewide mail option.

Confirm the $21 / $4 city fees on austintexas.gov and the county's $20 figure on countyclerk.traviscountytx.gov before you pay. Do not mail a recent Austin death to the county P.O. box.
