Ten Copies

Clerk's desk/August 30, 2026

Harris County and the $3 extra copy

Houston-area deaths split by city limits. Wherever you order, extras on the first request are cheap. Texas DSHS extras are $3.

The Harris County Clerk does not keep every Houston-area death. Deaths inside the city limits of Houston go to the City of Houston. Baytown, La Porte, South Houston, Jacinto City, and some JP precincts are also carved out of the county counter. Confirm the place of death before you mail P.O. Box 1525.

County, city, and state

  • Harris County Clerk, Personal Records: first copy $21, additional copies of the same record $4 when ordered together. Mail a cashier's check or money order payable to Harris County Clerk. Do not mail cash or a personal check.
  • City of Houston: the county page sends city-limit deaths to Houston Health. Confirm the current city fee on houstonhealth.org before you pay.
  • Texas DSHS statewide mail: first copy $20, each additional copy ordered at the same time $3, on the DSHS costs-and-fees page this check.

Ten copies from DSHS at $20 plus nine times $3 is much cheaper than ordering ten one at a time later. County extras at $4 are still cheap. Order the stack once.

Confirm the $21 / $4 county fees on cclerk.hctx.net and the $20 / $3 state fees on dshs.texas.gov before you pay. This desk takes no cut from any vendor.
