Clerk's desk/August 30, 2026
Orange County, California, not Florida
A death in Santa Ana or Anaheim is an Orange County, California record. The first 30 days go to the Health Care Agency. After that, the Clerk-Recorder.
There are two Orange Counties. This desk is California. If the death was in Orlando, you want Florida, not Santa Ana.
Which California counter
Orange County's own death-certificate page splits the errand by age of the record. Copies in the first 30 days after the death: Health Care Agency, Office of Vital Records, 200 W. Santa Ana Blvd., Suite 100-B, Santa Ana. All other requests: Clerk-Recorder, 601 N. Ross St., Santa Ana. Allow about 10 days after the death for the original to be registered.
- Fee this check: $26 per certified copy at both the HCA and the state. There is no cheaper extra.
- Authorized copies require identity paperwork and, for mail, a notarized sworn statement. Informational copies are redacted and will bounce at a bank.
- Bring unexpired government-issued photo ID.
- CDPH in Sacramento is the slow statewide mail backup, not the first desk.
Confirm the $26 fee on ochealthinfo.com or ocrecorder.com before you pay. Online orders, where offered, go through a vendor. This desk takes no cut.
