What VitalChek actually is
VitalChek Network, Inc. is a private company some vital records offices use for internet and phone orders. You still pay the office fee, plus their processing charge. It is not a shortcut around who may request. This desk takes no cut.
New York State's health department says it does not take credit cards or online orders. It sends those requests to VitalChek Network, Inc., which it calls an independent company. Louisiana says the same: the Office of Public Health does not take cards, and VitalChek is the partner. Florida says VitalChek is the only contracted online vendor for the Bureau of Vital Statistics and does not recommend any other online vendor. Ordering there does not change who is allowed to get a certified copy.
What the fee lines listed this check
- New York internet or phone: $45 per certified copy, which the state page says includes a $15 priority-handling fee. Mail without the vendor is $30 a copy. VitalChek adds $8 per transaction for every copy in that order, and optional UPS is $15.50 inside the continental United States.
- Florida online through VitalChek: $15 for the first certificate, which the state page says includes a $5 search fee and a $10 rush fee, plus a $7 VitalChek processing fee, plus $4 for each extra. Mail to the bureau lists a $5 search fee with the first copy, $4 extras, and $1 shipping.
- Louisiana: $7 per death copy, plus a $0.50 state charge on each mail or VitalChek order, plus an additional security fee the fee page does not price. Confirm that line on ldh.la.gov before you pay.
- The total on the card is copy fee plus whatever the vendor adds. Read the state page, not the checkout headline.
This desk does not sell copies and takes no cut of a VitalChek order. If you can walk in or mail the office directly, you can skip the vendor fee. If the state says online orders go only through VitalChek, that is the official online door, not a search ad for a different company.
