Copies for a life insurance claim
One certified copy per company. Ask if they return it. Many still do not.
What the insurer wants
A certified copy of the death certificate, a completed claim form, and usually a copy of the policy or a policy number. Some companies now accept a scan of a certified copy. Some still want the wet paper and keep it. Ask before you mail your last spare.
How many
Count companies, not policies. Three policies at the same carrier are often one copy. Two carriers are two copies. If a group policy runs through an employer, the employer or the carrier, not both, usually needs the certificate. Confirm.
